The grocery store is packed, and you wheel your full cart into the line. You begin to place your groceries on the belt as the customer in front of you pays. Two customers are behind you, one with a screaming toddler. Their carts are equally as full.

It’s your turn. The cashier scans your store card and smiles. You smile back. You recognize the cashier. You think she might live in your neighborhood.

You continue to place items on the belt when something happens that causes you to pause.

Commenting to the person bagging the groceries that she skipped lunch, the cashier reaches into a tiny snack bag she has hidden under the register. She quickly pops a snack in her mouth.

She then begins scanning your items.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

Your eyes immediately dart to the snack bag.

Beep.

Beep.

Beep.

You strain your eyes just a bit… and that’s when you see the package.

Beep.

Beep.

COMBOS CHEDDAR CHEESE!

Beeeeeeeeeeeep.

Your child has a serious dairy allergy. The line behind you is getting longer. That toddler is getting louder. The beep, beep, beeps are mocking you. And the cashier is touching everything! Beepin’ everything! What do you do?
